At Avature, the DBA team is responsible for designing and maintaining the infrastructure where our databases run, ensuring integrity, performance, security, backup policies, and service continuity across globally distributed environments.

As a Backend DBA Engineer, you will work at the intersection of DBA, Infrastructure, and Engineering teams, contributing to automation, scalability, observability, and reliability initiatives while helping evolve the platform that supports our services.

Your challenges and objectives:

  • Develop tools and automations for environment creation, deployments, and infrastructure management.
  • Work with virtualization and infrastructure platforms such as AWS, KVM, LXD, Docker, and Kubernetes.
  • Contribute to the design and development of highly distributed systems and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Perform code reviews, technical analysis, and refactors to improve code quality and maintainability.
  • Design and maintain configuration management systems, deployment platforms, and associated processes.
  • Promote best practices in deployments, infrastructure management, observability, and security.
  • Create and manage alerts and dashboards using observability tools such as Kibana and Grafana.

Your day-to-day activities:

  • Open source experience, contribution to Linux/Unix distributions, or experience operating product-as-a-service environments is a plus.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and Infrastructure as Code practices.
  • Familiarity with observability technologies such as Grafana, Prometheus, Kibana, or Alert Manager.
  • Knowledge of infrastructure and automation technologies such as Puppet, Terraform, AWS, OpenStack, Docker, Kubernetes, GitLab, Jenkins, Rundeck, or similar tools.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
  • Solid understanding of operating system concepts, particularly in Linux environments.
  • Software development skills and fluency in at least one structured programming language, preferably Go, Bash, or Python.

  • Solid understanding of operating system concepts, particularly in Linux environments.
  • Superior analytical/troubleshooting skills.
  • Knowledge of infrastructure management technologies (Puppet, Terraform, LXD, AWS, KVM, Docker, etc.)
  • Knowledge of infrastructure technologies (OpenStack, AWS, KVM, Docker, k8s, etc.)
  • Knowledge of observability technologies (Grafana, Prometheus, Kibana, Alert Manager, etc.) 
  • Knowledge of Automation technologies (Gitlab, Gitlab actions, CI/CD, pipelines, Jenkins, Rundeck, etc.) 
  • Experience in product as a service operation is a plus. 
  • Open source experience or contribution to any Linux/Unix distribution is highly desirable.
